AUKUS going to ‘face challenges’ and is ‘at risk of falling apart’

November 3, 2023

Former US deputy assistant secretary of defence Elbridge Colby says the trilateral security partnership between Australia, the UK, and the US, in acquiring nuclear-powered submarines (AUKUS) is at risk of falling apart. Mr Colby admitted that AUKUS is going to face challenges in its future, and a strong alliance with allies will be extremely important in the production’s success. “The submarine industrial base does not have the capacity to produce enough submarines,” Mr Colby told Sky News host Erin Molan. “Submarines are at the most important along with our heavy bomber fleet, the most important asset in the US arsenal. “We should be breaking down the barriers to working with close allies, especially like Australia.”
