Elbridge Colby and Alex Velez-Green have repeatedly emphasized this point. I disagree with them on some of the weapons trade-offs for Ukraine and Taiwan. But their basic point is well made and now proven true: National security wants are infinite, and national security needs are finite (there’s also a lesson for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s ego here).
