Japan should follow Germany’s lead on Ukraine
Russia’s abominable invasion of Ukraine is likely to be a hinge point in history. It surely must lay to rest the idea that history is over, that power politics and the possibility of major war are gone from the developed areas of the world.
Despite much discussion in recent years about gray zone and hybrid threats, Russia invaded Ukraine with things that many had argued are irrelevant in today’s world: tanks, artillery, missiles and planes.
Now Moscow is in the process of trying to subjugate Ukraine through the direct, violent application of overwhelming military force. If nothing else, this must prove to us all that major aggression is possible and that the best defense remains hard military power. This may be sad, but it is reality.
